We are based just outside the old Victorian suburb of Kensington Johannesburg. In the 1970's when we began the restoration of our home built in 1929, we wanted to stay true to the cultural heritage of the area and sought to repatriate all the elements of that grand old era.
The beautifully impressioned steel pressed ceilings and Oregon floors are typical features of the homes around the old suburbs of South Africa and the Victorian Cast iron fireplaces and ball and claw baths were signature items in such houses.
We found that often these items had been removed or had fallen into disrepair and so we began a passionate pursuit of restoring these items for repatriation to period homes.
Johannesburg is a city that has mushroomed just over a century and sadly many of these beautiful old buildings have been torn down to make way for more modern developments. Over the years we have rescued some of the most breathtaking items of a bygone era and restored them to their former glory. Over the years, pieces that graced the homes of Cecil John Rhodes, Julius Jeppe and Barney Barnato have passed through our workshop.
Today we have a choice of over 60 Victorian Fireplaces all with their own unique patterns and tiles.
Our showroom and restoration workshop lies in the modest suburb of Fairview between the CBD and Kensington. The shop itself bears the original façade of one of the typical Victorian semi-detached homes of the area.
We have consulted on many cultural heritage restoration projects and have overseen the building in of many fireplaces with modern gas conversions to suit the modern lifestyle.
Let us do the same for you.
